My intent on entering college was to pursue physical therapy. The undergraduate program in physical therapy was converted to a master's program my sophomore year which left me to choose a new undergraduate degree. I did not like biology, the major most choose when pursuing physical therapy. My interest in accounting did not start until I was a Junior in college. My roommate was an accounting major and sparked my interest in taking an accounting course as an elective. I enjoyed the course and decided to pursue an accounting major as well as acquire the prerequisites for the graduate program in physical therapy. While in school I had an intership in Minneapolis, MN in the accounting department of a finacial service corporation which gave me experience in corporate accounting. I also took the spring semester of my senior year off for an internship in public accounting where I gained valuable experience in taxes. I graduated in the spring of 2001 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. After graduation, I entered the masters program for Physical Therapy at UW-LaCrosse. The program didn't work out for me after a year and a half of coursework. Shortly after dropping out of the program, I met Regan (now my wife) who lived in New York. We would each fly out to see each other. I decided to move out to New York. While there, I got a bookkeeping position with a family run business where I maintained all the books for the business. In the spring of 2003 Regan and I got married and moved to Wisconsin. I got a position at a plywood company as a cost accountant. While there I helped point out where the company could improve with costs and labor to produce a better profit. Also, I handled payroll for about 2 months for someone on maternity leave. My wife had missed her family and wanted to move back but not until I was able to find a job in New York. After a year of living in Wisconsin we moved back to New York where I joined Alexander Edwards and Co. in June of 2004. I have gained experience in audits, financial statements, tax returns, and payroll. |
