The firm
was started
in 1920 as Riley, Preston and Associates with offices in Plattsburgh, Malone, Lake Placid
and Watertown. T.E. Gilmore was the manager of the Plattsburgh Office when the Firm
split up in the early 1930's. He ran the firm until 1947 when he recruited Alexander
D. Edwards.
The senior Mr. Edwards was working in Manhattan for
the international accounting firm Loomis, Suffern & Fernald. Loomis and Suffern
were the founders of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. While
there, he was in charge of several large audit engagements such as Kennicut Copper,
Pan-American Airlines, NY Athletic Club, and South American Gold and Platinum. Mr.
Edwards had previously been a partner with Forrest Mars at the M&M Company.
Mr. Edwards continued to lead the
firm until 1979 when his son Alexander C. Edwards was licensed as a CPA
and took over the day to day management of the firm. Mr. Edwards
remained active in the firm until his death in 1990.
1990 also marked the admission to
partnership of Maurica A. Gilbert, CPA, who originally came to the firm in
1986.
Our heritage dates back to the 1920's. The
name has changed but the quality has not.
